Thinking about what you want to do after school is a big decision, and there are so many options: Business, Law, Computing… Those subjects are fine, but they’re not known for igniting creativity. If you’re a hands-on person who likes to think outside the box, you should consider Art, Design or Media.
The BCUIC Art Support Programme is here to encourage your imaginative side, help you discover the exciting opportunities available in the creative industries, and support you in producing an original portfolio that showcases your individuality.

BCUIC is the international college of Birmingham City University (BCU) and provides foundation programmes that lead onto 20 different creative degrees at BCU.
Some of the degrees at BCU are one-of-a-kind, such as BSc (Hons) Gemmology (the science of gemstones) and BA (Hons) Horology (the study and art of measuring time).
BCU is home to dedicated workshops for wood, metal, plaster, ceramics, digital media, print and photography, as well as TV and radio studios that are regularly used by industry.
Based in the pulsing heart of Birmingham (the UK’s second city), students have easy access to work experience opportunities. The city’s working Jewellery Quarter is just a 25-minute walk from campus.
Many former BCUIC students are now specialists in their field, working in roles such as Interior Designer, Jewellery Designer, and Interior Architect.
BCUIC's Art, Design and Media foundation programmes are led by Bhavik Sharma – lead Art Tutor, with 10 years' industry experience.
Bhavik, BCUIC’s programme lead for Art, Design and Media, will be leading the Art Support Programme and helping you to discover your creative talents!

What’s great about the creative industries is the huge variety of job opportunities and specialisms.
If you’re interested in digital-based art, you could aspire to be a Graphic Designer or an Animator. If your passion is fashion, you could consider such roles as Fashion Designer or Stylist. If you’d rather be on the business side of things, what about Merchandiser or Creative Director? There are even roles that combine mathematical precision with creativity, such as Architect or Urban Planner.
Take a look at the alumni below, who are now thriving in the creative industries after graduating from BCUIC and BCU.
